Prof. Dipl.-Ing. Frank Nickerl taught exhibition design at the OWL University of Applied Sciences (TH OWL) since the winter semester of 2008. In August 2020, he died at the age of just 55 after a long, serious illness. The student council wants to commemorate his work at the department with an exhibition in the foyer of the Detmold school. Pictures and film sequences can be seen there until February. Here is the student council's text on the subject:

"During his time here, Frank Nickerl left his mark on many students. He always started projects with great enthusiasm and rarely behaved like a typical professor, but rather as a fellow student who wanted to be in the middle of the action. His influence on students, staff and professors is evident not least in the many pictures, videos and, above all, messages that we received as part of the planning of this exhibition. But he didn't just leave a lasting impression in teaching. Always up for some fun, he sang a farewell song for the graduates at an award ceremony, took part in a performance dressed as a Teletubby and provided music as a DJ at various events, either alone or with the Dark Flamingos.
